The actress admits that despite the Netflix role being a success, she “doesn’t want to be known specifically” for this job, mainly because she had never done a teen series before.
Jenna Ortega, the Wednesday Addams of the Netflix series, did not escape criticism of Tim Burton’s production script during a conversation on the Armchair Expert podcast, hosted by Dax Shepard and Monica Padman.
The conversation lasted more than two hours, in which the 20-year-old actress explains that some of the dialogue in the script did not fit the personality of the character, of whom she felt “extremely protective” and that this made her feel insecure. during recordings.
“The things she does, the things I had to play, didn’t make sense and didn’t fit the character. The love triangle doesn’t make sense. There was a line about a dress she was going to wear to the prom, when she says, ‘Oh my God, I love him. ‘, which I don’t believe she said. I literally hate myself for it,” Jenna said during the conversation.
In addition to not believing the character could say lines like this, Ortega went the extra mile and even improvised to keep the character true to who he believed he was.
“There were times when I even went unprofessional, in a sense, where I started changing lines. The script guy thought I’d come up with something, and then I had to sit down with the writers, and it was like, ‘Wait, what happened to the scene? ?” And I had to explain why I couldn’t do certain things,” he recalls.
Jenna Ortega remembers, in particular, the scene at the prom where “there was supposed to be a flashmob and everyone had to start dancing with her.” “But I stood in front because I thought, would she like this?”
The young actress – who recently debuted in another role, in “Screams VI” – also revealed that although “Wednesday” was a success, she “doesn’t want to be known specifically” for this work, mainly because she hadn’t done never a teen series before. However, thanks to this role, he earned nominations for the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Despite her criticism of the Netflix production, the actress still had some praise for Tim Burton. In an interview with S Moda, Ortega revealed that the director “really appreciated” his “contributions” to the series and even asked him “how he wanted to do certain things.”
“Tim is great. He’s so nice. He’s nice and funny and very normal. Really, really normal. He was always asking me questions about how I felt, how I wanted to do certain things. He’s a director who really appreciated what I thought. That which I had to say. You don’t always see that when you’re working, especially when you’re making movies with people as big and popular as him. It was very special to work with him,” he revealed.
The Netflix production broke records and became the English-language series with the most views in a week. The second season has already been confirmed.
