The ECB’s new rate hike and 4 other things you need to know to start your day

In addition to the interest rate hike by the European Central Bank, the annual accounts of CTT and Sonae are presented today. The market is also closely watching the case of Credit Suisse, which yesterday posted its worst ever fall on the stock market.


Sonae and CTT are present accounts

Earnings season is still underway in the PSI index, and this Thursday there are two PSI-listed companies reporting their numbers. CTT also has an announcement scheduled for today, but after the Lisbon Square closes.

Eurozone interest rates are rising again

The Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) has scheduled a monetary policy meeting, with the market expecting another hike in the three Eurozone interest rates. The biggest doubt is whether the increase will be 50 basis points, given the resistance of inflation. The pressure surrounding Credit Suisse has added to the uncertainty.

Credit Suisse will continue to dominate investors’ attention after a day in which the Swiss bank’s biggest daily drop on the stock market spread across the sector.

How did prices develop in industrial production?

The National Institute of Statistics (INE) publishes this Thursday the industrial production price index for February. In the European Union, the Industrial production prices rose 16.4% in January compared to the corresponding period in 2022, with a 6.2% increase in Portugal.

Support for approved income and credit

The Council of Ministers approves today part of the measures to deal with the housing crisis, with the support for those with mortgages and rent support to see the green light.
