In 2023, games like The Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto V, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and Bioshock Infinite complete 10 years of existence. When they were released, in the era of PS3 and Xbox 360, the titles were critical and sales successes that are remembered by video game fans to this day. During their travels, the games have garnered several nominations and awards, such as the best game of the year. So, below is a list of ten games that are coming of age this year and more details about them, such as narrative and gameplay.

Released in 2013, The Last of Us quickly became a phenomenon. To this day, it is considered one of the best games of the last decade. In the plot, players accompany Joel, who is hired to get Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a quarantine zone. The journey, however, becomes a brutal battle through the ruins of the country.

Considered an absolute success, the post-apocalyptic game was well received by critics and audiences alike. In the Metacriticalthe title is classified as you have to play (in Portuguese, something like “must play”) and scores a 9.2. On the PlayStation page, TLOU stands out as having won more than 200 Game of the Year awards.

In 2020, the game received a sequel, titled The Last of Us: Part II, which won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020. In 2023, the title won a series on HBO Max, which is already considered One of the best video game adaptations of all time. The first game in the series can be purchased on PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PC (from March 3, 2023).

GTA 5 is another big name in the gaming world and, not surprisingly, it won Game of the Year in 2013 at The Game Awards. Rockstar’s title has crossed multiple console generations, originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360. Since its debut, Grand Theft Auto V has sold more than 170 million copies worldwide, making it the highest-grossing entertainment product in history .

In the plot, players accompany the trio of Franklin, Trevor, and Michael in their series of scams through the game’s fictional city of Los Santos. In addition, the online mode of the title is constantly updated to this day, offering new dynamics to the game. GTA 5 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).

In Bioshock Infinite, users follow the story of Booker DeWitt, a US Cavalry veteran and hired gun. He was given the mission to rescue Elizabeth, a mysterious girl, who has been trapped since childhood in the flying city of Columbia. Originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360, the title is available for purchase on PS4 and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). The game is also playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

One of the main rivals of League of Legends (LOL), from Riot Games, Dota 2 was also released in 2013. Valve’s title was one of those responsible for popularizing the MOBA genre and is still well known to players. Currently, it is one of the most rewarding games in the eSports scene, for example.

The game dynamic involves two teams of five players divided into routes, each with different roles and characters. The main objective is to reach and destroy the Ancestors (protected structures located inside the bases). Dota 2 is available for free download on Steam.

5. Injustice: Gods Among Us

The story, graphics and gameplay are some of the factors praised in Injustice: Gods Among Us. Set in the DC universe, the fighting game features both the publisher’s famous heroes and villains. In the plot, Superman goes insane after a shocking event in his life and decides to rule by fear. Thus, Batman is forced to fight back to prevent the destruction of the Man of Steel. The title is available for purchase on PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam). However, the Android and iPhone (iOS) phone versions are free to download.

In 2013, Tomb Raider showed players the origins of Lara Croft. The plot focuses on the evolution of the famous survivor, who must unravel the dark history of the forgotten island where she is. The title reached 8.5 million copies sold worldwide and is available on PS4 and Xbox One consoles, in addition to PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).

The only game in the Arkham series not produced by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham Origins takes place before the famous Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. As with Tomb Raider, the game’s story focuses on Bruce Wayne’s rise as Gotham’s vigilante, showing the early days of what would become the Dark Knight. The game is available for purchase on PC via Steam.

8. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag

Despite not breaking new ground in terms of gameplay, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag caught the attention of players because of its story. In the plot, users accompany Captain Edward Kenway, grandfather of Connor, protagonist of Assassin’s Creed 3, who is involved in the conflicts between Assassins and Templars. The title is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch, via the Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection bundle.

In 2013, EA continued one of its most famous series with Battlefield 4. The story of the game presents a tense scenario involving major powers such as the United States and China, which are close to going to war. Thus, players follow the actions of the Tombstone squadron, which includes the characters Daniel Recker, Kimble and Clatyon. The title can be purchased for PS4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam).

Developed by Grinding Gear Games, Path of Exile is an online action RPG set in a fantasy world. According to the Steam description, in the game, the player is an Exile who must survive on the continent of Wraeclast. So you have to increase your powers with items and constant battle. The title, which has gameplay similar to Diablo 3, is available for free on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), PS4 and Xbox One.
