“The Last of Us” concluded with an episode that was both intense and emotional. The audience was literally left breathless in some sequences, only to let tears fill their eyes with the bittersweet ending of the narrative. Renewed for a second season, the series already has source material to follow and adapt: the game released by Naughty Dog in 2020.

Based on ‘Part II’, the title follows Ellie and Joel five years after the events of Salt Lake City. The focus now is mainly on the young woman who could save the world, who is now 19 years old. Now, they both live in Jackson, Wyoming. “When a violent event disrupts the peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to find a solution,” predicts the game’s description.

Several new characters are entering this rich universe of “The Last of Us” such as Dinah and Abby, who will be extremely important to the story, as well as other iconic additions such as Jesse, Seth, Yara, Lev and Owen.

As the spotlight is on Ellie, many people are questioning whether Bella Ramsey will remain in the role of the character. The insistence on the subject left the creators of the production a little irritated.

“Yeah. She smokes six packs of cigarettes a day and goes on a diet of straight whiskey and tainted beef,” Craig Mazin joked about Bella’s casting. “When she joined us, she was 17. Now she’s 19. Which by the way is Ellie’s age in ‘The Last of Us’ Part 2. People were like, ‘She doesn’t look like that.’ [Ellie].’ Does not matter. Just watch what happens. And now they know,” the producer explained.

“I think there’s still that anxiety, that constant rhythm of anxiety. And all I can tell people is I’m really looking forward to doing a good job at it. If you’re looking forward to something, I’m probably looking forward to it, which means we’re talking about it and thinking about it. We’re going to introduce things, but it’s going to be different. It’s going to be different like this season was different. Sometimes it’s going to be radically different and sometimes it’s going to be very different. It’s not going to be exactly like the game. It’s going to be is. The show Neil and I want to do. But we’re doing it with Bella. [Ramsey].”

There is no premiere prediction yet for the new batch of episodes, but it is known that the story of ‘The Last of Us – Part IIIt won’t be told in just one season, but at least two.

With 9 chapters, the first year of the series is available in the HBO Max catalogue.
