by A same-sex couple from Balneário Camboriú, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, saw their lives suddenly change with the adoption of five biological siblings. “We believe we have been chosen”says one of the parents, Geninho Goes, 56.
“What was supposed to be just a casual encounter turned into a love affair, with five kids in one night,” he said.

He left the position of Tourism Secretary in the city to devote himself fully to fatherhood.
Now with children between the ages of 1 and 14, the couple share experiences, tips and reflections on family life on Instagram (see further below).

The first adoption had already taken place in 2016, when the firstborn was 8 years old. In the second half of 2022, however, at the age of 14, the couple received a new contact from the social worker with the proposal to raise the family with her four biological siblings.

Geninho says they didn’t have the right families for a team with so many brothers and different ages. The alternative would be to separate them.
“When we received the proposal, my partner and I had no doubts for several reasons. Our daughter always asked for her brothers. He knew only one of them, he knew of the existence of another. But I didn’t know there were four”context.
Even knowing the challenges ahead, the decision was made on the same day.
At the beginning of the relationship, in 2008, he and his partner, Eduardo Domingos, did not think about having children. The plan changed when they watched a documentary on the subject and couldn’t hold back the tears.
“Adoption is not a fairy tale, imagine a delayed adoption […]. But we saw the purpose much more than the challenges”, he stated. For Geninho “love explains”.

Thinking of inspiring other fathers to be present in their children’s lives, the couple created an Instagram profile, “Paiciência”, where they share family experiences, advice and reflections on fatherhood.
“We strongly live fatherhood, because we know how important this phase is in anyone’s life. So, in addition to inspiring those who want to have a child, whether through adoption or biologically, we want to show in practice how to be present. we can say we live intensively,” he jokes.
