Hogwarts Legacy it includes a detailed representation of the famous wizarding school of the Harry Potter saga and its surroundings, but not all areas and activities are in the game – this is the case of Quidditch and, most famously, the Chamber of Secrets. Or at least that’s what the developers say – and many fans suspect that this is not true.

Officially, it is not possible to enter the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts Legacy. Another official absence was Slytherin’s Basilisk – but the legendary snake was found in the game, passing through the common room of Slytherin House. The sighting was caught on video by a player and posted on Twitter:
I just saw the Basilisk come out and travel through the Slytherin room??! 😰 What?!

It is currently unclear what events cause the Basilisk to appear in the Slytherin common room. Some say it’s just an easter egg, a reference to the original work. Other fans have speculated that the entry of the Basilisk and the Chamber of Secrets are hints of content to come, such as an expansion. And of course, many suspect that the snake is part of a larger mystery, which could lead the player who manages to solve it to the Chamber of Secrets.
The Hogwarts Legacy and the Chamber of Secrets
The entrance to the famous hidden room is in the game. There’s a Field Guide page – the game’s collectible book that doubles as a tourist guide and encyclopedia – dedicated to the location, but for now, there’s no way to get past it. According to Porkey Games, it would be very difficult for the developers to include Chamber of Secrets in the game. Really?
In the Harry Potter books, the Chamber of Secrets was for a thousand years the home of the Slytherin Serpent, a basilisk that, according to legend, was supposedly used to “cleanse” Hogwarts of Muggle-born students. The room has a statue of Salazar Slytherin, founder of the House, and a direct connection to Tom Riddle, the great villain of the original saga.
Riddle opened the Chamber in 1942 (long after the events of Hogwarts Legacy) and released the Basilisk. The snake injured several students and killed young Myrtle Warren, who still haunts one of the castle’s ladies’ toilets.
In-game, the hall entrance can be visited by fast traveling to Floo Flame at the bottom of the Grand Staircase. From there, the player must turn right and proceed through the hall until it curves to the left. Turning right again, you will see two doors: one is the men’s room and the other is the women’s room. The entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is in the sink in the women’s bathroom.
Those who expected to find Crying Myrtle here will be disappointed, after all, the student will be killed by the Basilisk only in 1942. Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the distant 1800s.
Parseltongue in the game
Another detail that points to future DLC content or an unsolved mystery is the famous Parseltongue that Voldemort speaks. The secret language that first appeared in The Sorcerer’s Stone and is associated with the descendants of Salazar Slytherin. The player character cannot speak Parseltongue, but there is a wizard in the game who possesses the language, Ominis Gaunt – and uses Parseltongue to open a secret door, similar to what Harry Potter does with the Chamber of Secrets in books and movies.
Whether the addition of Gaunt and the Basilisk to Slytherin has anything to do with the Chamber of Secrets and the future of Hogwarts Legacy, only time, the game’s producers, or most detective players will tell.
Hogwarts Legacy is available for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
