PS5: Sales increase by more than 200% in Europe
The latest figures show that Sony saw a significant increase in sales of its PlayStation 5 on the European continent in the last month of January. According to information revealed this Tuesday (14) by the Game Industry channel, during that period sales of the new generation console recorded a 202% increase in Europe. However, the figures do not count sales in the UK or Germany, so this figure will be even higher.
In a year-over-year comparison, PS5 sales in Europe were 15.5% higher than in January 2021, with 493,000 console units sold last month. Of course, the fact that there is also greater availability of the product justifies these values. We remember that for many months it was practically impossible to find PlayStation 5 units for sale on the market given their rarity.
In short, the details published by the channel show that the PS5 was the best-selling console in Europe in January 2022, surpassing the popular Nintendo Switch (whose sales fell by 11% compared to the previous year) and Xbox Series X and Series S (which marked a 32% year-over-year decline).
Game sales are falling
In terms of game sales figures, 12.1 million titles were sold in Europe last month, which represents a significant drop of 19% compared to the same period last year.
