The management of Porto Canal has gone through a deep restructuring, with the departures announced yesterday of Tiago Girão and Pedro Bragança from the positions of information director and digital strategy director respectively. As informed, in an official announcement, the board of directors of Avenida dos Aliados, a company in the universe of FC Porto that manages the television vehicle of the blue and whites, they “cease the functions they exercised”, since new leaderships are indicated in the monitoring.

According to the information gathered by Record, the two termination procedures had different contours. Pedro Braganza has asked to step down from management, while Thiago Jirao, who had requested a change of operations a few weeks ago, has been dismissed from his position.

It is a process of reformulation that ends up acquiring definitive contours three weeks after the case that triggered an article published on the website of Porto Canal, in which the wife of the commentator Rui Santos was exposed, as well as the foundation he has in the city of Porto. This was a post that came out of Rui Santos’ thoughts on Sérgio Conceição, in his commentary program starring CNN Portugal.

Such as Record reported, a few days after the article, the editorial board of Porto Canal issued a statement to distance itself from it, disavowing the content of the publication in question and others like it. “As journalists, licensed professionals and aware and zealous of complying with the Journalists’ Code of Ethics, we completely reject the fact that content that does not obey the most basic rules of journalism is published in the media that the white establishment holds,” it read in the statement.

Tavares and Estela take over

In the same announcement that formalized the two departures, the management, also led, like SAD and other port companies, by Pinto da Costa, also informed that Manuel Tavares will have enhanced duties and Estela Machado will also have a double responsibility. Manuel Tavares “begins to stack the position of executive administrator with that of general manager,” while Estela Machado, until then assistant director of information, “assumes the positions of director of information and director of programs.” The company Avenida dos Aliados, owner of Porto Canal, according to the latest report and accounts of FC Porto, is 81.42% owned by FC Porto Media – since the agreement was completed in 2016 with Medialuso – which with in turn it is also a holding company for SAD of FC Porto, with a percentage of 98.81%.
