by The GPD Win 4 laptop went on pre-sale last Friday (10) and is wrapping up purchases today so the devices will ship to the first consumers later this week. The hardware promises even better performance than the Steam Deck, and we already have Hogwarts Legacy performance data to prove it.

Amidst this fever of PC gaming-based handhelds (where the Steam Deck came from), GPD has always been a big contender in this scenario. The latest GPD WIN 4 promises even better performance than Steam Deck thanks to it AMD Ryzen 7 6800U APU with 8 cores and 16 threads accompanied by an iGPU based on RDNA 2 Radeon 680M with 12 cores and clocked at 2200 MHz.

Aside from the hardware, it’s also worth highlighting the design featuring a 6-inch Full HD (1080p) display with curious and useful support for 40 and 60 Hz refresh rates. A screen with all this resolution condensed into just 6 inches creates a high pixel density, which is exactly 368 PPI (pixels per inch).
GPD WIN 4 also includes a mouse function, as well as gyro sensors for compatible games, buttons and joysticks in a familiar form, and also a physical keyboard that is hidden inside the device when you don’t need it.

A user named “Please Xiogfeng” from the Chinese social network BiliBili already had access to the laptop and shared some performance results with Hogwarts Legacy. It’s difficult to understand many details of the comparison because the source is Chinese, but at the settings the user is using, GPD WIN 4 managed to open a margin of about 10 to 15 frames on Steam Deck, making it more comfortable at 60fps and at times less demanding reaching up to 90 fps.

It’s also important to note that the Steam Deck reached higher temperatures during this test, reaching 70º while its newer competitor was close to 50º C.
