F1, Helmut Marko: “Mercedes has lost its way”

Mercedes’ poor start to the season continues to be talked about and Helmut Marko wouldn’t miss an opportunity to comment on the current state of a rival team. The head of Red Bull described a dark scenario for Mercedes.

With a car that once again fell short of the expectations that were created, Mercedes is now looking for solutions to become competitive again, but those solutions are not easy to find, even more so with a budget constraint. Marco believes that the team has lost its way and that recovery will not be easy:

“Mercedes has more than one obstacle, that’s clear,” Marco told OE24. “They haven’t made any progress compared to last season. If we look at the differences, it was really a step backwards. They seem to have lost their way. I’m curious to see what they’ll do now. Due to the cost cap, regular car development is a problem. How do you build a whole new car? Unless they get a ‘golden shot’ (solve the problems at once), which I don’t believe after recent experiences.”
