E3 2023 without the heavy gaming? Sony, Nintendo and Xbox may be left out

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3, is the largest exhibition dedicated to video games in the world, which takes place in Los Angeles. This year it will take place from the 13th to the 16th of June, with many already confirmed appearances.

Sony, Nintendo and Xbox may, however, be left out… is this a doomed event?

E3 2023 without the heavy gaming? Sony, Nintendo and Xbox may be left out

Although there is no confirmation yet, the website IGN guarantees the absence of the biggest heavyweights in the world of video games, Sony, Nintendo and Xbox.

The news is billed as "exclusive" and states that "IGN has heard from multiple reliable sources that Xbox, Sony, and Nintendo will not be part of E3 2023, nor will they be attending the Los Angeles Convention Center exhibit hall ยป.

At this time, companies should hold their usual summer presentations, with what's new for the coming year, however, they can also be held outside the exhibition.

Could Sony, Nintendo and Xbox be left out or is it just speculation?

The site speculates that although Xbox CEO Phil Spencer assures that he is working with E3 and that the company supports both E3 and ESA, however, he should not be present. This conclusion, however, does not seem to fit very well with the statements of the CEO who said in an interview on the same channel that for him "E3 is one of the most inspiring moments of games". He also said he likes the "story of going to Los Angeles, thousands of people there, seeing great new things... meeting people in the industry, the fan events." Finally, he says, "I definitely want this to continue."

As for Sony and Nintendo, there seem to be more certainties of not being at the event, even more so considering some disagreements between PlayStation and ESA, but also because of Nintendo's success with the "Nintendo Direct" format. Even so, so far, none of the three have made any statements regarding their presence or not at the event.

ReedPop, organizer of the event, left a statement, saying that there are only verbal confirmations and that the contracts will only be sent out at the end of the month to be made official.

You can read the full statement below:

E3 is such an important event for the gaming industry, and being entrusted with a major cultural touchstone is not a responsibility that ReedPop takes lightly. Since ReedPop was contracted to run E3 six months ago, we've worked diligently with ESA members based on their feedback to create a new type of E3 that supports their goals and needs.

This process took time due to the sheer number of stakeholders providing input, although we appreciate that we could be more transparent about questions we were still finalizing answers to. We continue to work tirelessly to create a show that brings together the global gaming industry. We believe we have created a new format for the event that serves the needs of both the industry and its fans, and we are committed to building and growing it in the years to come.

As we spent much of 2022 refining how E3 2023 would look, taking into account the feedback we asked for, we didn't send a single contract to an exhibitor until earlier this month. We've received tremendous interest and verbal commitments from many of the industry's biggest companies, and when we're ready to announce exhibitors, we're sure it will be a lineup that will make the trip to Los Angeles well worth it. industry and consumers.
