The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) has opened registration for the 20th edition of the Outstanding Scientific and Technological Initiation Award. The prize has a partnership with the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC). The aim is to encourage Scientific Initiation (IC) and Technology Initiation (IT) Fellows, whose final reports stand out for their relevance and quality, and institutions that have contributed to the achievement of the program’s objectives.
In this edition, the Award has a new category, the Junior Science Initiation Scholarship and an increase in the value of the award of the Science Initiation Scholarship and Technology Initiation Scholarship categories, from R$7,000 to R$10,000.
For each of the categories – Science Induction Scholarship, Technology Induction Scholarship and Junior Science Induction Scholarship, up to three scholars will be awarded, one for each major area of knowledge – Life Sciences. Exact, Earth and Engineering Sciences. and Humanities and Social Sciences, Letters and Arts.
Scholarship winners in the Science Initiation Scholarship and Technology Initiation Scholarship categories will receive R$10,000 in cash, master’s or PhD scholarships and a diploma. Winners of the Junior Scientific Initiation Scholarship category will receive R$5 thousand and a diploma, in addition to the Scientific Initiation or Technology Initiation scholarships.
Registration of PIBIC institutions to compete in the Institutional Value category will be automatic, as long as they present fellows from PIBIC, PIBIC AF or from the researcher’s quota, registered in the Scientific Initiation Fellowship category.
For the submission of the proposals, the coordinations of the Institutional Scientific and Technological Start-up Programs (PIBIC, PIBITI, PIBIC-Af and PIBIC-EM) of the universities and research institutes, must be forwarded to CNPq, via e-mail, by March 29, 2023 , the best exhibitions, ranked or awarded by the internal or external committee in the trips, halls or seminars, held during the 2nd semester of 2022.
All laureates and the representative of the institution to which the Institutional Value has been awarded will receive airfare and per diem to attend the 75th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC), which will be held from the 23rd to the 29th July 2023 at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), in Curitiba.
The result will be released by CNPq by June 30, 2023.
