Cargo is the pant of the season, but there are plenty of styles to explore. Meeting – 31/01/2023

If you were a teenager in the 2000s, you surely remember that cargo pants were a huge part of the look of the era. And of course, with the return of that aesthetic that marks the ‘turn of the millennium’, also known as Y2K, the piece is back with everything.

Taking stock of the current men’s fashion scenario, stylist Luiz Plinio points out that modeling has been a favorite choice among fashionistas.

“Precisely because it has this more street feel, which is a style that dominates the whole culture in recent years,” he vouches for the piece that began to appear again in 2019, hit the catwalks and fell into the public’s taste, booed, including of department stores.

Created there in the 1940s, specifically for the British Army, the piece had pouches to store ammunition, with the aim of improving the soldiers’ mobility.

However, over the years, the functional side has been adapted to everyday life and has acquired other interpretations. And so, from the 1980s onwards, it became part of other styles and cultural movements. Between the collections of many brands, such as Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton, and on street fashion, it is establishing itself as a versatile piece that should not go away anytime soon.

Despite being very similar to dress pants, tailoring differs because they are tailored, and as the name suggests, to a tailor, with more built-in, chunky fabrics that make the look a bit more consistent.

“Names like Harry Styles and João Guilherme are good moments of those using and abusing tailored trousers of different colors, sizes and fabrics. We saw something very similar happen in the 90s with the jeans of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio,” says.

Khaki
