Lulu Cheng Meservey, vice president of legal affairs at Activision Blizzard, where she also serves as chief communications officer, told the FTC that HBO’s The Last of Us series proves that Sony is a leader and does not need protection.
Lulu says the quality of the series is such that it already proves that Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard should be approved.
“Hey FTC, did you see last night’s episode of The Last of Us? It was incredible. No wonder the show is breaking records. It’s a true blockbuster, watched by tens of millions.”
“The Last of Us is produced by Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions. It is based on the hit video game, developed by a Sony studio and released by Sony as a PlayStation exclusive.”
The Last of Us is produced by Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.
It is based on a best-selling video game developed by a Sony-owned studio and published by Sony as a PlayStation exclusive.
Why does this matter?

“FTC objects to Microsoft/Activision Blizzard deal on grounds that Microsoft may ‘suppress competition’ from rival consoles with Activision games.”
“There seems to be some concern that Sony’s position as a market leader could be jeopardized with this deal. But there is no need to worry.”
According to Lulu, “Sony has an unrivaled wealth of intellectual property, not just in games, but in television, film and music, which can be used in games or to promote existing games.”
In conclusion, The Last of Us series is already generating renewed interest in the game.
But there is no need to worry.
Sony has an unrivaled level of IP, not only in games, but also in TV, movies and music — which can be developed into games or made available to existing games.
Case in point: The Last of Us TV show is already sparking renewed interest in this game.
